WHO WE ARE
Architecture firm based in Sao Paulo and Mexico City founded and directed by Sol Camacho. Together with her team, Sol works in projects spanning different scales, contexts and formats. From academia to construction, RADDAR intertwines the theoretical and practical issues that architecture face in the contemporary urban context. Current endeavors include Pacaembu Stadium adaptive reuse project and PIPA a project recently awarded by LafargeHolcim International award for sustainable design. PIPA involves design building, community building and research hub in Paraisopolis - a favela in central Sao Paulo. Before establishing RADDAR, Sol worked independently in an open-office format partnering with renowned architects in Mexico, US and Brazil. OMA, Metro Arquitetos / Paulo Mendes da Rocha among others. She also worked at Skdimore Owings & Merill (2007-2009) TEN Arquitectos (2004-2006) in New York and Architecture-Studio in Paris. (2002) Amongst other awards she was selected as a candidate for the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative (2016) and was twice awarded the FONCA (Mexico’s Ministry of Culture Grant) with the urban analysis work MEGACENTRALITIES published by ITDP. In 2018, Sol was the curator of the exhibition Walls of Air for the Brazilian Pavilion for the 16th International Exhibition at the Venice Biennale. Also since 2017 she is the cultural director of the Instituto Bardi / Casa de Vidro, where she is in charge for the exhibitions, cultural events and coordinator of Lina Bo Bardi’s archive. In this role Sol launched and designed the Pavilhão de Verão (Summer Pavilion) and has curated numerous exhibitions. Sol earned a Masters of Architecture and Urban Design from Harvard University Graduate School of Design in 2008 after earning a Bachelors in Architecture from Mexico City’s Universidad Iberoamericana in 2004. Both degrees earned with the highest honors. Sol also studied at Ecole d’Architecture Paris Val de Seine for a full year during 2001-2002 Camacho is a teacher at Escola da Cidade, and has taught, written and lectured extensively internationally on architecture, urban design, and heritage conservation. |

WHAT WE THINK
Research as Design and Design as Research are complementary processes that feed into each other to keep our architectural and urban design practice proactive, innovative and forward thinking. All projects, weather commissioned design, self-initiated research, grant applications or competitions, focus on building a state of the art architectural practice engaged with social development in urban contexts. At RADDAR we are passionate about connecting people and ideas, finding opportunities and developing relationships through design of spaces and processes. We think of architecture both as a technical and meticulous métier solving specific physical issues as well as a strategic discipline that operates across scales and traditional borders, relating it to culture, art, and sociology. Researching, writing and teaching, as well as engaging with universities, cultural foundations and institutions are an integral part of our work as catalysts of project ideas and development. We constantly collaborate with other architectural firms and partners of different disciplines.
